Here's why you actually don't need a "better" camera

Don’t let what you shoot on stop you from making something incredible

Any camera can be cinematic, trust me. 🙌

I've tried and tested lots of them from Nikon to Fujifilm to Blackmagics and more. 📸 And while each camera has their own unique sets of strengths, I strongly believe that it's not actually about what you shoot with. It's about how you tell the story with what you're seeing. 🧐

You Don't Need A New Camera: It's never been about the camera; it's always been about everything that goes into getting "the shot." 📸 🧠 Watch HERE

A Real Look into My Filming Process: If you've ever wondered what my filming days look like, it goes a little something like this. 🎥 😌 Watch HERE

"Cinematic" isn't a filter you can slap on in post. 💭 It starts with a feeling that you capture with your own vision: how you see the world, framing, movement and stillness in a shot.🫡 And any camera, even the one on your iPhone is capable of capturing cinematic footage.

Remember, it's about the story you tell, not the specs. ✍️

Have a question about cameras/editing/technical skills? Ask me HERE! Your question may be featured and answered in depth on the following week’s newsletter.

Question of the Week:

“Not very technical but as a beginner how do you get out of your head of over analyzing to just doing? There's so much info out there that I can't help but study anything and everything but I realize I'm doing so much research that I'm not actually filming. Any advice on how to get out of this "analysis paralysis"?” Submitted by: AJ

I feel you on this. Been there, still go there sometimes.

Here’s the thing,  you don’t learn filmmaking by watching YouTube tutorials all day. You learn it by filming something ugly, watching it back, and going “okay, not that.” And then doing it again, and again, and again, and again.. The internet made us feel like we need to know everything before we even press record. But the truth is, doing > knowing. Every single time. My advice? Challenge yourself. Film something this week. Give yourself a limit. One hour. One location. One idea. Edit. Then post. Don’t let yourself tweak it for 3 days. Finish it, and move on. That’s the ONLY way to get past this. Because momentum and confidence is built by making, not mastering. Hope this helps!

Alright y'all, hopefully I managed to deinfluence you a little bit from feeling the need to buy the newest gear out there. Remember, your camera is just a vessel for you to tell your story. 📚 Learning and mastering one tool and all the aspects that go into getting "the shot" will do more for your art and your confidence more than the most expensive gear will! ‼️ Hope this helps and happy creating.✌️
