Sunday Short 🎥 How I Film My Overhead Shots

It’s just something we have to live with at this point as a necessity to keep up with how people consume art and media. I personally am a bigger fan of horizontal video but times have changed, and if you don’t at least TRY to keep up, you’ll get left behind.

Vertical content is a whole different beast not having the width of horizontal framing, but you can still incorporate depth into your compositions with foreground and background blocking. If you are standing 10ft away from your camera, put something 3ft away from it in the foreground to give depth to your scene.

I try to always make sure my vertical compositions are filled with layers of depth from the bottom of the frame and build my way upwards, the same way you would with composition blocking on the sides of your frame and leading lines when framing for horizontal video. — AP

Have a question about cameras/editing/technical skills? Ask Adrian here! Every week, he will pick out one question to answer in depth on the following week’s newsletter.

Adrian believes in utilizing his platform to feature creatives on a global scale. Through the formation of APCC, he hopes to bring more exposure to creators and encourage others to tap into their talents and let their art speak for them. Every newsletter, Adrian will handpick creators whose work he admires to highlight them on the Creator Spotlight.

There will be one film, one photograph and one video postcard selected for the bi-weekly Spotlight. You can submit your own works through the Discord community here.

Thank you all as always for watching and supporting my videos. The APCC Newsletter is the most direct way I can write to you all in a more in-depth manner than 90-second short-form videos ever can.

The next newsletters will include more detailed breakdowns i.e. scripts that go along with the short films, before and after color grading screen grabs, and more.
